We invite you to use Solidarity Stories in a variety of ways to increase awareness and discuss ideas for engaging in meaningful solidarity practice.

IF YOU’RE A STUDENT

IF YOU’RE PART OF A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION

You can use Solidarity Stories to host brown bag discussions about AAPI communities, to include in workshops or forums, and to share on your social media.

IF YOU’RE AN ORGANIZER OR FACILITATOR

You can use Solidarity Stories as part of workshops and gatherings.

IF YOU’RE A TEACHER

You can use Solidarity Stories as part of your syllabi, class activities, and homework assignments (best connected to history, political science, and ethnic studies classes).

How To Use Solidarity Stories to Organize Community Discussions

You can use Solidarity Stories to host a one-hour conversation with your community. Below are phases and steps you can take.

PHASE 1 — Prepare!

STEP 1

Identify the Solidarity Stories that will anchor your community discussion.

STEP 2

Get to know the Solidarity Stories by reading the case studies, watching the video clips, and doing additional research if needed.

STEP 3

Identify the themes you’d like to pull out in the discussion, and the prompts you’d like to use for discussion (check out the takeaway themes and reflection prompts in our written case studies).

PHASE 2 — Discuss!

STEP 1

Introduce the conversation. What are your hopes? Perhaps your goals are to raise awareness, to inspire people to action, or to have a deep discussion on solidarity - maybe all of the above! (5 minutes)

STEP 2

Have people share their own points of entry. What identities are they bringing into the space? (10 minutes)

STEP 3

Have people take time to read the Solidarity Story you chose. Share the PDF link with everyone. (10 minutes)

STEP 4

Watch the video clip connected to the story. (5 minutes)

STEP 5

Discuss the Reflection Questions. (20 minutes)

STEP 6

Identify calls to action (10 minutes). We encourage you to think about supporting a local AAPI organization in your community, connecting with a campaign, or simply sharing the Solidarity Stories on social media and with your networks.
